I just heard of this great way to get free books for our classroom. Sunny D Juice is running a promotion that for every 20 Sunny D labels we collect- they will send us 20 FREE BOOKS! I think thats a great deal! I'll send home some reminder notes about it as school begins, but start saving those labels!

Mark Your Calendar!
I just received some important dates for the fall that I want to pass along. You'll receive more info in the mail from the school regarding the beginning of the year.
Meet the Teacher: September 1st
Even though we've already met, it would be wonderful to see the kids before the school year begins!
First Day of School: September 7th
Be there bright and early at 8:20am!

Responsive Classroom
This week I am in Ohio for a teaching conference about Responsive Classroom. I'm really enjoying myself and learning so many great things for our classroom. This approach to classroom management is positive, socially oriented, and developmentally appropriate. I'm learning more about Morning Meeting, Teacher Language, Logical Consequences, and Making Rules. I can't wait to get back to school and bring it to our students.
If you want to learn more about it you can check out the website. On the site you can find tons of research behind Responsive Classroom and the benefits it brings to children, teachers, and parents.

Also- Even though I'm away I'm writing letters back to students who are writing me. Thank you Jordan for writing your 2nd letter to me!

Our New Principal
As you know, Mrs. Middleton moved away after this school year. Although she will be missed, we have a new principal at UPA, Mrs. Johnson. I've worked with her this summer in our summer academic camp program and had the opportunity to sit and talk with her about our school. She is very excited to be here and I think she will do a great job at our school!
On the school's web site she posted a message and her picture is up for you to see.
